Hi all there is on the information site that Peggy provided for all of you and the tutorials will help you.
Posted by mberger on November 1, 2007
Please look at your Beep site and atomic learning site. You can also go to our WIKI resource site: Http://pbltech.org
Please remember that if students use Powerpoints as their storyboards and want to use the slides as part of their movies, you must export the slides to a .tiff extension. The menu will drop down and provide the choice. These items now can be saved to desktop and then they can be dragged and dropped into the iMovie story board when needed.
Please use this site to post your thoughts and questions. Please don’t forget to use pages(publisher in Microsoft) and keynote(PowerPoint) software.

Research Tools – New Tools to Use
Posted by Peggy on November 1, 2007
So you have to write a research paper… or create a multimedia research project… how do you start?
Start your research in the BEEP student portal:
http://beep.browardschools.com
Click on the link to the Student Portal.
Learn how to search the web, and learn strategies for getting the best results:
• Click on Doorway # 4: Software Tools.
• Go to Atomic Learning
• Click on Our Tutorials
• Choose Searching the Web – Intro
Do you know when to use Google’s “I’m Feeling Lucky” button?
• Searching the Web – Advanced
Do you know how to find pages that are no longer on the web… pages like your own My Space page from 4 years ago?
Check out the online encyclopedias, multimedia resources, and reference databases through doorway # 2: research and homework help. Don’t forget save a copy of the citations with your notes.
If you need help focusing or defining a topic of research:
Noodletools Check out this page when you’re asking, “I need help to define my topic…”
http://www.noodletools.com/debbie/literacies/information/5locate/adviceengine.html
Noodlequest is an interactive search version of Noodletools at:
http://www.noodletools.com/noodlequest/
When you search for information on the Internet, there are many different search engines to use. Some you will be familiar with – such as Google and Yahoo – but others may be new to you – such as Clusty and Grokker. See below for more information and links to these great search engines.
GOOGLE http://www.google.com
Don’t just put words in the search field. Use Google’s Advanced Search to narrow your search. For example, you can seach by domain name – the endings of web addresses – to find quality resources. Searches for sites at “.edu” are from US universities and colleges. Sites ending “.gov” are from government organizations, and sites ending “.org” are from organizations.
Or search by date restrictions. Why search a hundred years of records about Pluto, when what you really want to know is why (in 2006) scientists decided that Pluto is no longer a planet.
Google resource on Search Basics at:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html
YAHOO http://www.yahoo.com
If you are you still searching for the right topic or focus, try these:
Google Directory is a tool where you can search by categories of information, such as the Arts, Sports, or History at http://www.google.com/dirhp
Ask http://www.ask.com/ (formerly Ask Jeeves) allows you to “Narrow your search” at
Clusty http://clusty.com/ groups results into topics, or “clusters,” for better search and discovery
Grokker http://www.grokker.com/ simultaneously searches a host of content sources looking for the most relevant information. Grokker then categorizes and displays those results visually to explore and manage the results.
